Possibly the most original company on Earth
![]()
I've been a fan of Oakley since 1992 or so. I was drawn to them for their enigmatic attitude, and the mystery of how and why they do what they do. Oakley makes things differently from other companies. Take their latest creation, the carbon fiber C Six. They spent years designing a pair of sunglasses out of carbon fiber, which is an unlikely material for sunglasses. Add on that they ultimately cost $4000, and it makes literally zero sense. However, as a company, they saw a challenge and just decided to do it. I really admire that attitude, and in these days of penny-pinching & cost-cutting, that's really cool.
I've acquired a variety of their stuff over the years, and it's a rare day that I don't have at least one Oakley thing on my person. Their stuff might cost a few bucks more, but it lasts. I still wear a shirt at least once a week that I bought over 12 years ago, and it's practically as good as the day I bought it. While they make a lot more stuff then they used to, a lot of it more mainstream than you might imagine, I still admire their creativity and ballsy attitude. Not too many other companies would buy a black corporate jet, or a tank to rumble around their headquarters in.
Here's a few pics of things Oakley related. Some I've taken, others I've found online, but all of it is interesting.
