I like a LOT of things. Not sure why, but my inquisitiveness has driven me to read about, try out, figure out and obsess about many things. Guess I just like learning about new stuff. Here's some things I enjoy and love chatting about, in no particular order. This is going to be a long page, get ready.
Carbon Fiber
I really like carbon fiber. If you make something out of it, I would like to own it. I am fascinated by it's technology (how they make fibers that small is beyond me). I like it's visual appearance and depth. Since I like cars so much as well, it's always amazing to me that you can build an entire car out of the stuff.
I found it so interesting that with no real information I bought some and started playing. It took a while, but over the years I've gotten a pretty decent understanding of how to make things with it. My latest projects, sunglasses and a briefcase, are coming out pretty decent. It takes a lot more handwork when you do it without all the fancy equipment, but it's perfectly possible to make some pretty cool stuff by hand, with just a little bit of cost.
All in all, it's a very fun hobby. If you have questions, feel free to email me!
Oakley
I've been a fan of Oakley since 1992 or so. I was drawn to them for their enigmatic attitude, and the mystery of how and why they do what they do. Oakley makes things differently from other companies. Take their latest creation, the carbon fiber C Six. They spent years designing a pair of sunglasses out of carbon fiber, which is an unlikely material for sunglasses. Add on that they ultimately cost $4000, and it makes literally zero sense. However, as a company, they saw a challenge and just decided to do it. I really admire that attitude, and in these days of penny-pinching & cost-cutting, that's really cool.
I've acquired a variety of their stuff over the years, and it's a rare day that I don't have at least one Oakley thing on my person. Their stuff might cost a few bucks more, but it lasts. I still wear a shirt at least once a week that I bought over 12 years ago, and it's practically as good as the day I bought it. While they make a lot more stuff then they used to, a lot of it more mainstream than you might imagine, I still admire their creativity and ballsy attitude. Not too many other companies would buy a black corporate jet, or a tank to rumble around their headquarters in.
Here's a few pics of things Oakley related. Some I've taken, others I've found online, but all of it is interesting.
Playing Cards & Cardistry
This is a relatively new entry into my world, but with a connection to my very young childhood. When I was perhaps 8-10 years old, I was intensely interested in cards, magic tricks and related things. I spent many an hour trying things, reading books, etc. However, as life went on its way this fell off my radar for nearly 25 years. Just recently, I saw on a design blog that there was a company making cool custom playing card decks, and my interest was fired anew. I've bought some cool decks and started playing around with "cardisty" or extreme card manipulation, which is a fancy way of saying "do crazy things with a deck of cards in your hand." Fun, albeit nerdy, stuff.
Here's a video of a very talented cardist. Maybe someday I can do about 20% of these things.
Automobiles
Cars are pretty great. I read about them constantly, dream about which ones I could own if I were a wealthy gentleman, like seeing them on the road, and I've spent a fair amount of time and money in trying to learn how to drive them better. I've also been very blessed to own some really fun ones. My current plaything is an E46 BMW M3, and it's a pretty fantastic car that can serve almost any role. Dinner out, or racing full out, it does it all.
Here's some pics of cars I've owned, or cars I've dreamed about.
Knives
I don't have too many (though I do insist on the best if possible), but sharp pointies have been a fascination of mine since I got my first Swiss Army knife back when I was about 8. Have pretty much had a knife on me every day since then.
